Paul was finally able to manage his diabetes while he worked different shifts

As a paramedic, odd shifts and meals on the road were standard for Paul.  The demands of his job made it hard to eat healthy all the time.  Years later, he was diagnosed with diabetes. Paul is still on the road and was interested in options that fit his life. Remembering to bring so many supplies and inject himself was difficult. When he finally found V-Go®, he wished he’d learned about it sooner.

Hard working and bad habits

“When the doctor saw my glucose number, he sent me to the endocrinologist right away.”

Paul is a supervisor for a company that replaces historic windows with energy-efficient ones, but custom restoration is actually his second career. Twenty years ago, he worked as a paramedic.

Being a paramedic made life difficult:

  • odd shifts
  • meals on the road
  • bad eating habits and weight gain

When he started sweating excessively, he knew something wasn’t right. Then one night, he ate something sweet, and his mouth went dry. “I remembered patients with diabetes telling me about their mouth feeling dry, and I called my doctor in the morning.” Paul picked up a glucose reader from the local drug store and came up with a blood glucose reading of 346!

He was immediately put on oral medication to control his diabetes but had to step up to daily injections—as many as 6 a day—to get his A1c down. His doctor suggested V-Go to help simplify Paul’s insulin routine, and to help keep his sugar levels more consistent.

Why didn’t I know about this sooner?

The difference has been so significant, Paul wishes he’d learned about V-Go sooner.

When he goes to work, it’s usually in an old, abandoned building that is being renovated. Dusty, dirty construction sites without privacy, air conditioning, or refrigeration are not the ideal work environment for someone with diabetes. In his words, “there’s really not any clean place to go and give yourself an injection other than in your truck.”

V-Go has benefited Paul:

  • No more hiding. With V-Go discreetly supplying his insulin, job-site injections are no longer a concern.
  • Convenience increases compliance. “V-Go is so convenient and definitely increases my compliance.”

Paul loves the outdoors, and takes his kayak out often, sometimes for hours at a time. V-Go has made this much simpler. “If I go on vacation somewhere, and I want to go on a hike or paddle in my kayak, I don’t have to worry about carrying all that stuff with me.”

Done with multiple daily injections

“V-Go is so convenient and definitely increases my compliance.”

Today, Paul’s friends call him a “V-Go evangelist” because he can’t say enough about how much it’s improved his life. “I admit I’m enthusiastic about it. If you’re sick of having to stick yourself all the time, this is the thing for you.”
